Primary One: Is My Child Ready? Am I Ready?

*This post is published on behalf of Ummiku Sayang Sdn Bhd*

I am sure those of you whose children are going to Primary One next year have started to feel the anxiety of starting a new chapter in your lives (like me!!!).

Primary school is so different from pre-school in terms of the number of students, so it can be quite a daunting experience for the first-timers (both child and parents).

So, to help you lessen your worries, Ummiku Sayang Sdn Bhd has planned a talk on the topic mentioned, with renowned speakers.

Here is the e-flyer for the talk, for those who might be interested.

Unfortunately, I will be out of town that weekend, attending a wedding ceremony somewhere in Negeri Di Bawah Bayu. This trip was planned in advance, so it's not possible to cancel reservations and whatnot. And I don't think I should ask the pengantins to postpone their wedding. :P

Anyways...

I was excited that the ladies at UKS decided to organize this event. I was telling one of the UKS founders some time ago about how unprepared I am to have my daughter going to the "big girl" school next year.

I guess in terms of material stuff, there isn't much to worry about (betul ke?) since there'll be booklists or checklists on what items to prepare/buy for school.

But what about the other things like survival skills? social skills?

Home-packed food or extra pocket money?

Since Sofea is a very picky eater, how do I make sure she eats proper breakfast (or lunch) before going to school?
What would be the best (read: easiest to prepare) menu?

And how should I mentally prepare myself to be a mommy of a Primary One student?

In addition to handling my work-at-home hours, how do I plan her study time? homework time? KAFA time? And not forgetting to factor in playtimes and rest times. Tu belum masuk part exam times lagi. *panics*

Seriously, I need help!

Should I say relax ibu.....
It depends on the child but I think Sofea will be fine. After a while I guess I am a pretty laid back mama. Maybe you want to buy her a msg book where she can write down msgs from teachers.

I boleh kira dgn jari brp kali Afiq buy fr the school canteen. Dia bawak mcm2 jenis roti to school. Every sunday dia pegi beli roti ikut selera dia.

I can write berjela2 but tak payah la...I know you & her wl be fine.

i used to be such a control freak sampai trivial matters pun risau giler. of course, i'm not saying that our children are, trivial.. tapi.. relax, ibu. the kid is probably more prepared than you are. after all dia spent berapa lama kat kindy? 2 years? social skill, dah ada tu, walaupun sikit. my only worry last time was masa break tu je.. sebab my children tak biasa handle duit.. good luck!! my second pun nak masuk std one ni..

I don't think so lah. With a child like Sofea, it would be a breeze Insya Allah. She will be fine. You? heh heh. you will be fine too.

psstt kalau anak exam mak jangan panik tau.

this reminds me of some *calculating* almost 3 years back when fathini started her formal school; panic semacam but like what others have said - you will be fine; like the other day you are worried about sofea going to toilet kan? i used to worry about that too what with kasut and all that, kat rumah tak pakai kasut kan? semua tu insyaAllah kids can handle - nanti dia tengok her peers i am sure she'll learn afterall sofea is a bubbly and one smart girl! I dont think she will get bullied like my girls ni ha..sampai sekarang pun kena bully lagi *sigh* - talking about schooling kids ni memang byk nak fikir.

food for breakfast tu i think one way is try to cook as many (with varieties) recipes you can and observe mana yang sofea suka

the bottomline is time management.

the rest doa banyak2 and best of luck, ibu! :)

sebelum anakku ke sekolah. but truthfully i'm also worried about her social skills. but not worrying about her not making friends and all. more worried about her making too many friends instead.

nasihat? belum ada experience lagi so can't offer any :D
